Question 2

Is BreathCouple a medical app?

Accepted Answer

No. BreathCouple is a wellness and self-observation tool, not a medical device, diagnosis tool, or replacement for professional medical advice.

Question 3

How is BreathCouple connected to scientific research?

Accepted Answer

Several respiratory-analysis concepts used in BreathCouple are based on published respiratory-feature research by A. Velichko and M. T. Huyut in Biomedical Signal Processing and Control, DOI: 10.1016/j.bspc.2026.111373.

Question 4

Does BreathCouple detect stress?

Accepted Answer

BreathCouple does not provide a medical or clinical stress diagnosis. It displays experimental stress-related respiratory indicators as relative trends for self-observation.

Question 5

Can BreathCouple monitor breathing synchronization between two people?

Accepted Answer

Yes. With two independent microphone channels, BreathCouple can experimentally analyze inhale-inhale, exhale-exhale, inhale-exhale and exhale-inhale relationships in successive windows, estimating synchronization strength, relative time shift and dominant high-order synchronization ratio (SHR).

Question 6

What does SHR mean in BreathCouple?

Accepted Answer

SHR means subharmonic ratio. It describes synchronization order between two oscillatory event sequences using an integer ratio such as 1:1, 2:1, 1:2 or 3:2.
